REASONS WHY APC MAY NOT SURVIVE AS A POLITICAL PARTY By Kingsley Idam
Having observed things critically and analyzing it politically, I have come to the conclusion that All progress Congress (APC) might never survive as a party in Nigeria. Let me start by giving you a little summary of how All progress Congress (APC) was formed. Ahead of 2015 general election, four political parties- congress for progressive change (CPC) , All Nigeria people’s party (ANPP), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA)- merged together to form APC.
The decision/ coalition was as a result of what I tag a “painful realisation” that none of them could defeat the then ruling party as a separate entities without coming together as a United force hence the need for them to merge. To them they believed the future of Nigeria was tied to it.
They eventually succeeded in coming together although it was a huge sacrifice made by the leadership of the respective political parties.
REASONS WHY APC CAN NOT SURVIVE AS A PARTY AND WILL LIKELY SPLIT ANYTIME SOON.
It is pertinent to note that we are dealing with four(4) political parties here, when I say Four (4) parties I meant Four party with different political ideology, Four party with different origin/foundation, Four party with different Constitution, leadership and ethnic inclination. Even marriage between a man and a woman most times can be very difficult not to talk of Four (4) political party.
Each of these parties have their pioneers and founding members who will not want to be surpressed or even neglected in the new party. The big question now’s ” Are these pioneers really getting what they expected or deserved from the new party”?, “Does their various decisions count”? “ Verily are they been allowed to add anything within the deciding been represented or is that the party controlled by a specific faction? Well I think “NO” is the answer.
Have you ever asked yourself or better still imagined why APC are always having leadership crisis? Have you also wondered why the like of APGA pulled out from the coalition? Have you also wondered why APC is the only political party that have both a national leader and a national chairman? What is it that the national leader will do that the chairman and his national working committee can not handle? These people are different people with different political motive and ideology. They can not even trust themselves.
The major thing that brought them together which was to defeat the then ruling party has been actualized and at such might not with hold the unity for long
