Premier League clubs vote on five substitutions rule By Dumebi Tokpe
A vote to continue allowing Premier League clubs to make five substitutions was defeated at a meeting on Thursday.
That means that during the 2020/21 campaign, clubs will only be permitted to make three substitutions per match.
The five substitutions rule was brought in to help ease the strain on players when football returned post-lockdown.
Earlier on Thursday, the German Football Association announced that they would be continuing to allow five substitutions in the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga in 2020/21.
But despite the fact the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ clubs were reportedly in favour of keeping it in England’s top flight, they have been outvoted and will have to make do with three.
